What is Energy Medicine?

Energy healing has its roots in ancient forms of medicine, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, which originated in India over 3000 years ago. The basic concept of TCM is that a vital energy or life-force, known as “Qi,” surges throughout the body. An imbalance of Qi may result in disease and illness. Similarly, Ayurveda is based on the principle that disease is caused by an imbalance or stress in a person's consciousness. This vital energy is known as “Prana” – same as in Pranic Healing (below). In both, the goal is to support the body to achieve balance and realign your energy to find healing.

Links with Naturopathy

There are many traditional energy healing modalities, from all over the world. You may have heard of reiki, emotional freedom techniques (aka tapping), acupuncture, reflexology, sound healing, crystal healing, qigong, touch therapy, chakra balancing, polarity balancing, quantum energy healing, shamanic healing, and aura cleansing.

Most well-researched, with evidence for possible efficacy are:

Healing Touch & Therapeutic Touch – related to Reiki, but with differing beliefs & techniques, often used in hospital settings

Qigong - an ancient Chinese practice involving breathing exercises & movement which aim to optimize energy within the body, mind and spirit for improved health and well-being

Reflexology - also rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, pressure applied to different parts of the feet promotes healing throughout the body, believing this balances the body's energy.

Why Energy Medicine?

& how can it help you?

There's no scientific consensus about how energy healing therapies work. However, many accept that our physical body and life experiences are informed by energies existing in our energy field; any imbalances or blocks within the energy field can contribute to emotional challenges, physical pain or illness, limiting life patterns and other undesirable conditions in a person's life.

Scientific research on the health benefits of energy healing is also lacking, but data suggests some forms, like reiki, acupuncture, qigong and reflexology may offer pain relief, improve depression and anxiety, enhancing overall well-being.

Since energy healing is non-invasive, it’s generally considered very safe although, as with any type of therapy, it’s important to notify the practitioner of any mental health or medical conditions. It’s also crucial to talk to your primary care provider ahead of time about any therapies you intend to pursue. Energy healing is never a substitute for medical care or psychotherapy, but can often be used in conjunction with allopathic (conventional) treatments.

Every persons experience will be unique

Clients often ask what sensations they may feel during an energy session, such as Tapping, Reiki or Pranic healing:

  • Tingling feeling throughout the body

  • Emotional release, often expressed through yawning or coughing

  • Hot/cold sensations

  • Muscle twitches or tremors

  • Dizziness; seeing colours or images behind the eyes

  • Deep relaxation or tiredness

Reiki and other energy healing modalities are increasingly offered to hospital patients, with proven benefits for well-being.

Energy Medicine techniques I use

Modern Energy Tapping

aka EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)

Originating from Dr Roger Callahan’s Thought Field Therapy (TFT), which helped resolve a patient’s water phobia, ‘Tapping’ or EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) was developed by a student and Stanford Engineer, Gary Craig. Like acupuncture, it works directly on the body’s meridian system, however the major points are stimulated by tapping or massage, not needles.  Since 1995, EFT has been adapted and individualised – Silvia Hartmann evolved it into Energy EFT aka Modern Energy Tapping and formed The Guild of Energists (GoE).

It’s now widely accepted that Tapping is good for you, helping people with issues on several levels – emotional, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It addresses a particular situation as you believe it to be, simultaneously combining physical and mental effects of focusing on that pain-point or issue. Truly a mind-body healing technique.

How Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) works

‘Tapping’ and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) such as acupuncture, use the same invisible and inter-connecting pathways called ‘meridians’. Behaving like electrical circuits, these meridians connect to the tissues and organs, essentially every cell, bone and tendon in the body.  Voicing positive affirmations while tapping clears any "short-circuit" - the emotional block - from your body's bioenergy system. In other words, EFT Tapping works by rewiring the brain, bringing both the body and mind back into balance.

The latest research is proving that when you use EFT Tapping to shift your unconscious beliefs and emotions, you shift the chemicals being released into the body, in doing so, you are literally able to shift your nervous system, as well as your digestive and endocrine systems, your hormones, your energy levels and more!

So far, modern science’s investigations reveal that Tapping is the perfect bridge between cutting edge Western medicine and ancient Eastern healing practices. Study after study show that when you deal with the underlying emotional issues, the body is brought back into balance, leading to emotional wellbeing, increased levels of happiness, weight loss, increased focus and productivity. Therefore, Tapping (EFT) is highly recommended to optimise your emotional health - no matter how devoted you are to the proper diet and lifestyle, clearing emotional barriers will support optimal health.

How Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) works

  • Easy to learn, painless and flexible – anyone can use it, by yourself or with others, wherever you are and whenever you want;

  • Inexpensive, quick and effective; requires very little training;

  • Like acupuncture minus the needles

  • Empowering, giving you the power to take control of your own health and transform the way you respond to uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and troubling memories (with pain, tension or stress, for example).

  • Whether used alone or with an experienced practitioner, it can bring surprising, lasting relief, changing the energy we bring to any life situation

  • As you Tap more, you can become more aware of how your thoughts, beliefs and emotions affect you physiologically – and we can make changes for the better

  • Studies have shown that EFT Tapping lowers cortisol (the ‘Stress Hormone’), significantly

Applications for Tapping (EFT)

  • Remove Negative Emotions

  • Reduce Food Cravings

  • Reduce or Eliminate Pain

  • Implement Positive Goals

You’re invited to let me know if you’d like to incorporate Tapping into your Health Protocol.  I’m qualified to train people up to practitioner level themselves and often integrate it into my practice and programmes, particularly for clients who have underlying emotional blocks. Jikiden Reiki

Reiki, which originated in Japan, is an energy healing or natural therapy carried out by placing hands on the body.  The goal is to improve the flow and balance of energy to promote relaxation and healing. Practitioners receive Reiki energy (also called ‘life-force’ or ‘Ki’), from all around us (the Universe) and focus it onto the receiver.

As this ‘life-force energy’ is focused on the areas where it is most needed, the body’s natural healing ability is stimulated. The word ‘Jikiden’ means ‘directly taught’, which defines this form of Reiki as having been or ‘directly passed on’ from Chujiro Hayashi himself. It is therefore authentic and pure, as close to the original teachings as is possible, unlike ‘Western Reiki’ which adapted from the original teachings.

Michaela Hope

Unique Jikiden Reiki characteristics: ‘Byosen’ is an integral part of Jikiden Reiki often omitted by Western Reiki teachings; energy has been described as more ‘grounded’ and ‘simple’; as its emphasis is practical, on treatment, rather than ‘spiritual’, it appeals to and is acceptable by all;

Promotes domestic use of Reiki, reducing reliance on allopathic medicine and drugs, which contributes towards reducing medical waste, playing an active role in the fight against global environmental issues; Preferred by many who feel the  original essence has been greatly diluted in Western Reiki; and the original concepts behind the symbols Shirushi and Jumon in Jikiden Reiki are very clear and simple to understand, learn and implement.

Pranic Healing®

GrandMaster Choa Kok Sui, a Chinese-Filipino spiritual teacher and energy master created and developed Pranic Healing®  to improve the quality of our daily lives, increase personal health and energy. Now highly evolved, the comprehensive Pranic Healing®  system of energy medicine involves using ‘Prana’ to balance and transform the physical body's energetic processes.

This invisible 'vital life-force energy' keeps the body alive and maintains it in a state of good health. Through drawing upon and controlling our supply of 'Prana' we can experience life as being more fulfilling. The ultimate goal of Pranic Healing®  is not only to learn how we can heal our aches, pains and illnesses, but to become consciously aware that we are all interdependent: we come to realize that our choices, energetically as well as physically, have an effect on everyone around us and start contributing positive energy and emotions.

Like Jikiden Reiki, the idea is that ordinary people can practice Pranic Healing®  by learning, in just a short time, how to deal with simple ailments, which is empowering.  A trained Pranic Healer however, will have a well-rounded education in Energy Healing and other Esoteric Sciences.

How Pranic Healing®  ‘works’

Simple yet powerful, 'no-touch' Pranic Healing®  is based upon the principle that the body is self-repairing (think of how cuts, bruises, broken bones heal themselves). Tested rigorously and highly evolved, it is distinguishable from other healing therapies by its systematic and scientific approach. Pranic Healing®  is becoming increasingly popular and is even used alongside conventional medicine; professionals like doctors, nurses, massage therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, shiatsu practitioners find it very effective and easy to apply.

Pranic Healing®  does not involve drugs, gadgets nor direct, physical 'touch'. Rather, the practitioner works on the physical body's surrounding ‘energy body’ – this is often known as the ‘aura’ - which absorbs life energy ('Qi' or 'prana'), then distributes it throughout the physical body to the muscles, organs, glands, etc. The reason Pranic Healing® ® works on the energy body is that physical ailments first appear as energetic disruptions in the aura before manifesting as problems in the physical body. Pranic Healing®  focuses on the invisible 'energy body' because it affects our emotions, our ability to handle stress, relationships, even finances and the belief is that physical ailments initially appear as energetic disruptions in the aura, before subsequently manifesting as problems in the physical body

As well as working on your aura, Pranic Healing®  is used for House Scanning – you can purify your space of negative energies and psychic pollution.  You’re invited to let me know if you’d like to receive Pranic Healing® .

Having achieved the first two levels, I’m still very much a Student and love the opportunity to practise both distance healing and in-person sessions. I’ve learned the basics of working with your energy aura, including learning to "scan," or feel the energy, to "sweep," or clean away congested energy, and to "energise," or supplement areas in your aura that have a pranic deficiency.

Rose Alchemy

Roses convey deep emotions... they also carry powerful frequencies which can offer healing, support and great insight in our collective evolutionary journey toward a new level of consciousness. Rose Alchemy, a vibrational medicine for the Heart, was created and developed by Sandra Marie Humby in her passionate quest for the esoteric and sacred in life.

Perfect in their Sacred Geometry, the Roses’ unique, energetic codes (PURE LOVE) allow the Heart access to your residual stories and inner blocks, gracefully transforming them and increasing the feel of love and flow in your life.  The more your own past stories and life issues are resolved, the more open you become to love, positivity and well-being in your life. For only when you shift something on the inside can you alter your outer experiences.

Michaela Hope

Allow the energy of the Rose(s) to which you feel drawn, work at a subtle level, whilst absorbing the message offered as guidance and support for your life journey. Be mindful it’s simply guidance – you may receive an impression which differs from that revealed in the written message.  A 'Rosy experience' involves: the 11 Rose frequencies of the Rose Healing Grid which help balance physical, mental and emotional energies by working directly on the body’s chakras.

The Master Roses represent The Divine Masculine, The Divine Feminine and the Golden Flame. The Rose Angels work on the transformation of the 5 wounds to the Heart (Abandonment, Betrayal, Denial, Judgement and Separation), sometimes referred to as The Magdalene Wounds. The Rose ‘Ba Gua’ (a Feng Shui term) set relate the space in which you live to specific areas in your life – your inner heart field. And the Rose Ma (Mother of The Rose) set consists of 11 gorgeous Roses whose beautiful energies represent the qualities of the Awakened and Empowered Feminine Heart - in both men and women

I completed 5 levels of the Rose Alchemy Training Programme (Feb 2016) and hold great respect for the vibrational healing properties of the Roses.  You’re invited to let me know if you wish to incorporate Rose Alchemy in your programme.
